Criteria for an International Competition as member

1st Criterion: Representation
The international wine and spirit competition must aim for maximum international representation of producer countries. A minimum of 10 different producer countries must be represented at a competition for it to be considered international. Also, more than one third of the enlisted products must originate from a different country than the one where the competition is taking place.
2nd Criterion: Respect of a Charter
In the spirit of the Federation’s Charter, an international wine and spirit competition is a contest that must respect those Federation rules which guarantee:

-

The competition’s objectivity;

-

Integrity in sample selection and evaluation process;

-

The necessary level of qualification for jury members;

-

A trustworthy decision-making process concerning the quality of product rating;

-

A control outside of the organisation in order to insure healthy functioning of the competition;

All of this is subject to approval by the Federation’s
3rd Criterion:

Patronage
The competition must be under the patronage of the “Union Internationale des Œnologues” (U.I.O) and the International Office of the Vine and Wine (O.I.V.).

In countries where there isn’t a Union of Oenologists, the competition must insure that tasters have adequate training to guarantee credibility of their product evaluation during the competition.

The Federation requires patronage of the “Union Internationale des Œnologues” and the International Office of the Vine and Wine for all its members.

4th Criterion: Limited amount of awards
The acknowledged international competition must not award a total number of prizes (all types of rewards included) superior to 30% of the number of products enlisted in the competition.
5th Criterion: Jury composition
The jury must count at least 5 members, and a majority of these members must be citizens of a country other than the one.
